Who wins who lose in Liverpool-Madrid

Real Madrid and Liverpool are the two most successful club teams from the two best leagues in Europe. The leagues are the English Premier League and La Liga. Both the clubs are the envy of their competitors when it comes to their European record.

Now the pick of the 2nd round of the Champions League is the pairing of these two. The most surprising thing now is that it is the first competitive meeting since the European Cup Final in Paris in 1981. Then Liverpool won its 3rd European Cup. The credit of this win goes to Alan Kennedy goal.

Between these two giant clubs there is a link in the intervening period. Steve McManaman made a Bosman switch to Real Madrid from Liverpool in the year 1997, Liverpool, in the year 2002, was invited to take part in Real Madrid’s centenary tournament. Michael Owen made his controversial switch to the Bernabeu in 2004.

But it seems that most will be made of the links to Rafa Benitez. Rafa Benitez is a self-confessed ‘Madridista’ and recently in this week he suggested that he would want to end his career at Real Madrid. Well that’s fine but he undoubtedly will be desperate to get 1 over on his old club. This is just to prove that his success with Valencia against the might of Los Merengues was no fluke.
