The defender Pepe of Real Madrid has spoken today about the Champions League clash with the Liverpool. He stated that their English opponents did not even try to attack at the Bernabeu. The English side came away with a 1-0 win just because of a late goal from Yossi Benayoun. Pepe believes that his side can still win, he was left frustrated by the first-leg.
He said to the media that they knew that they were going to play very defensively but it went even further than that. He added, “they gave up on any type of attack and, on top of that, won the match.”
According to Pepe, the team has the football to win at Anfield and they will play for their lives there. The team can win anywhere. It is very clear that, in spite of the fact it was a tough defeat, there is still optimism in the side he said.
He also mentions that with the next leg taking place in a couple of week’s time, Real Madrid have plenty of time to focus on the league. Pepe knows they need to beat Espanyol this weekend.
