D.C. United yesterday completes months of difficult negotiation with making it final 9th August match against the Real Madrid. But there is a change in it. Instead of playing at the RFK Stadium, the home of D.C. United for 14 MLS seasons, the friendly match will be held at FedEx Field.
The officials of D.C. United now had chosen the Landover venue because this stadium can accommodate twice as many spectators as RFK, a creaky, 48-year-old facility that holds 46,000. Here, the sale of enough tickets would offset Real Madrid’s appearance fee of an estimated $1 million and turn a profit.
There are other few factors also. One of them is the FedEx’s private boxes and amenities and the Washington Redskins’ involvement, including access to the NFL team’s season ticket list.
The seat in the lower bowl starts from $50 for United and Redskins’ season ticket holders. The general-public seat begins at $60. The tickets will go on sale from June 17.
