Adam Szalai leaves Madrid, signs Mainz on loan

Forward Adam Szalai of Real Madrid has been signed by Mainz on loan until the end of this season.

He is yet to make his first-team debut for Primera Division giants. He has spent most of his two years at the playing for reserves. He is said to be strengthening the Bundesliga side ahead of the second half of the season.

Thomas Tuchel, the coach of Mainz said, “He is just the player we wanted in attack… He is versatile and can play as a target man, as a second striker or even behind the forwards.”

In the past also Tuchel has worked with Szalai. He has coached him in 2004 when he was in charge of Stuttgart’s youth team. Then Szalai joined from Ujpest Budapest to the Swabians. After this Szalai moved to Real Madrid, but he is seen to be happy in coming back in the Bundesliga.

Tuchel mentioned on the official website of the club, “I have chosen Mainz because the club really tried hard to get me and I know the coach Thomas Tuchel from when I was at Stuttgart.” He also added there, “I also see good perspectives for me and the club.”
